Department of Oral Hygiene and Safe Dentistry

Cross Contamination in Dental Care Facilities

In Pakistan, there is only one qualified dentist to treat 9,413 people. To fill this gap 40,000 dental quacks are running dental care facilities in different localities of Pakistan. Out of those only 3,200 dental quacks sterilize their instruments using standard autoclave method. Due to such practices patients are exposed to infections like Hepatitis and HIV during dental health care procedures.

Department of Oral Hygiene and Safe Dentistry

Department of Oral Hygiene and Safe Dentistry will organize following academic, research and community health activities:

1. Certification course in Cross Contamination Control in Dental Settings for Dental Healthcare Providers

2. Certification program in Cross Contamination Control for Dental Care Facilities

3. Field surveys to collect data regarding dental care facilities compliance with infection control

4. Community awareness activities about Oral Hygiene

Oral Hygiene And Safe Dentistry

Dr. Aqib Mudassar graduated from De’montmorency College of Dentistry in 1997. He received his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree in 2003 from USA and went onto receive his training in Comprehensive Cosmetic Dentistry. During his 12 years of practices in the States he remained involved in continuing dental education (CDE). Dr. Aqib Mudassar is an internationally practicing dentist with for 12 years of dental practice in California. He came back to Pakistan to bridge the gap in dentistry between these two parts of the world. His mission has been to bring the cross infection control protocols being followed at dental care facilities in the States to Pakistan. Having organized multiple awareness campaigns both in California and then later in Punjab, he understands the nuances of the issues at hand related to infection spread via dental clinics. His continuous work to fight this via social media campaigns, open house sessions and informative videos has already started bringing positive change and we are pleased to have him on our team and hope to work towards a better future that is infection free for both our health care providers and patients. He has also been a part of the Complete Health Movement in California and advocated getting rid of oral infections to attain complete body health. On his return to Pakistan he made his mission to educate the general public about the connection between oral infections and their adverse effect on the overall health of the body as well.
